Britons 'best energy savers in Europe'Sales of UK double glazing are the best in Europe.Britons are continuing to lead the way in energy saving, according to a new study, which showed that around 70 per cent have secondary or double glazing.

Research from EDF Energy and the Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College London showed that a further 70 per cent have loft insulation as homeowners look to save money on heating bills by making their properties more energy-efficient.

Despite being the best energy savers, the UK was ranked sixth in Europe for sustainability, with Spain coming out on top.

Eva Eisenschimmel, chief operating officer at EDF, said: "Make choices about whether your home is powered by renewable energy sources and low carbon electricity, as well as choices around the management of appliances in your home – making sure that you don't waste electricity through leaving things switched on when they're no longer used or on stand-by overnight."

Mary Geddes, from the Cambridge Carbon Footprint, recently told the Daily Telegraph that cheap double glazing can benefit houses which were built before energy efficiency concerns became a major issue.
