British Gas to rollout energy saving technology

British Gas is to offer customers energy saving technologyA leading utilities provider is to rollout new technology to measure the energy efficiency of homes across the UK.Gas and electricity company British Gas has agreed a deal which will see it trial energy saving management technology in homes across the UK.

The firm hopes to rollout AlertMe.com's energy kit to its customers for a limited period to consider how people can measure their power consumption and how they can cut their household's carbon footprint through the use of measures including double glazing.

It constantly measures and controls the energy usage of individual appliances, as well as managing the home's overall consumption.

Gearoid Lane, managing director of British Gas New Energy, said the technology is an "exciting prospect".

He added: "It's all so simple to use - never again will consumers need to stick their heads into a poorly-lit airing cupboard to struggle with complicated controllers."

The government recently announced plans to launch a new pay-as-you-save scheme to encourage homeowners to install insulation and UPVC windows.
