Britain searches for 'UK Green Voice'

Britain searches for 'UK Green Voice'A search has got underway to find Britain's green champion, who will be the voice of the people on environmental issues.Britons are being urged to enter a competition to become the people's green champion - representing calls for everything from cheap double glazing funding for homes to local initiatives.

In collaboration with the Energy Saving Trust, TV favourite Melanie Sykes has launched a search for the UK's first Green Voice of Great Britain.

A new people's champion will join 300 Energy Saving Trust ambassadors that have already been appointed throughout the UK.

The winner will be crowned in a special parliamentary ceremony that will take place on October 21st during Energy Saving Week.

Commenting on the launch of the competition, Ms Sykes explained: "UK householders are responsible for almost half of the UK's carbon emissions so if we are half of the problem then we need to be half of the solution.

"We are looking for people who can represent the views of the man on the street and communicate these views in a simple manner: have you got the green X Factor?"

Recent research by the Energy Savings Trust indicated that half of Britons are interested in finding out if their home is capable of being adapted to use renewable energy.
