Residents in Bolton have been offered a cheap way to make their homes more energy efficient.
A new environmental scheme has been launched by Bolton Council and the Hoot Bolton Credit Union, which will give people access to interest-free loans of up to £3,000 to help them afford to carry out home improvement projects.
The only conditions are that the cash is spent on energy efficiency improvements and that repayments are made in full and on time. The money can go towards a variety of green measures including cavity wall insulation and roof insulation. Alternatively, residents can choose to purchase domestic appliances which have an energy rating of A.
Bolton Council’s executive member for housing, Nick Peel, said: "This is a great way of saving energy and money, as well as helping to cut carbon emissions. I’d encourage people to get in touch to find out more."
Various schemes are now being unveiled across the country, with more local authorities keen to help people enjoy lower utility bills through the installation of double glazing, insulation and equipment for producing renewable energy such as solar panels.
