Blinds 'help to cool down conservatories'

A study undertaken by engineering consultancy Faber Mansell, which was commissioned by Appeal Conservatory Blinds, found that the temperature of a conservatory without blinds reached 43 C on a hot day in July.

However, it was found that the fitting of standard roof and side pleated and pinoleum blinds cut heat to 37 C.

In addition, the research also revealed that such blinds could cut heat loss in winter months by around 17 per cent.

Richard Hussey, marketing director of Appeal Conservatory Blinds, said the study highlighted how blinds are "essential" to controlling the temperature of the extensions in all weather.

Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding & Renovating Magazine, recently claimed some conservatories are "notorious" for overheating during the summer but being too cold when winter comes.
