Best child bedroom designers announced

The winning bed had bunk beds and a slideThe winners of a child's bedroom designer competition have been announced.Those seeking inspiration before they contact a bedroom designer to give their child's room a makeover may want to look at the winning entries of an interior design competition.

First prize in The Cool Kids' Rooms Photo Contest - a $500 (£325) voucher for a home furnishings store - was won by a castle-themed room that incorporated a turret and slide, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

It had a large sun-shaped lampshade and the ceiling was covered in a cloud-print fabric.

"We tried to see things from a kid's perspective and figured that if we were under 4 ft tall we'd think this castle with a slide and four bunk beds hidden inside was very cool," the judges at the newspaper wrote.

Second place was awarded to a loft space in which the bedroom designer had adopted a garden-theme. It had grass painted on the walls, flowerpots nailed above the window and real branches hanging from the ceiling.

Earlier this month, interior designer Debbie Travis wrote in her column for website yourhome.ca that parents should invest in good quality furniture when redecorating their child's room as this will last them through their teenage years.
