Double-glazed windows could help the city of York keep its Christmas ice rink. The power of double-glazed windows to reduce noise pollution could ensure that York keeps its popular Christmas ice rink, according to a councillor.Christian Vassie, City of York Council's energy and efficiency expert, has written to energy and climate secretary Chris Huhne to ask for help with the matter, reported the York Press.Coun Vassie said that, by installing double-glazed windows in the nearby courthouse, the ice rink would not cause any problems."With the ice rink, there is a simple solution to keeping the attraction where it has been so successful for years. The only reason they [court] hear any noise is because their windows aren't double-glazed," he added. The councillor went on to say that St Paul's Cathedral also features double-glazed windows, so there is no reason why a historic building such as the York court rooms could not follow suit.It would also help the building to improve its energy efficiency, with windows of this kind helping to keep heat in and reduce energy bills.
