Following the recent recession, more people are hoping to increase their property's value by adding features or redecorating rooms.

Anna-Marie DeSouza, editor of Build It, says that people realise that home improvement can be a worthwhile way to add a "real personal touch" to a home, while giving a sense of achievement at completing the project.

She said: "The home improvement market looks set to have yet another promising year. Homemaking is having a revival at the moment, so there's nothing trendier than partaking in a bit of DIY or mending and replacing something."

Recent research from home improvement firm Everest says that 28 million people plan to develop their property in the next year, spending an average of £2,831 on the work.

Further research by an insurance firm claimed that 68 per cent of householders have damp in their homes but have not treated it, potentially damaging their property and leaving them looking for bedroom quotes to replace this.
