Jenny Sullivan, a senior editor of Builder magazine, told USA
 Today readers that 2011 will see a more stripped-down sentiment in home styling.

"Glitz is gone, at least for now," she explained. "Honest architecture is the order of the day, as homeowners look to simplify their lives. This mantra of zen is playing out in interior spaces, with natural finishes, clean lines and few frivolous embellishments."

Ms Sullivan added that a drive towards "green" building will also motivate home improvement enthusiasts.

Last week, Jessica Alexander from The Sleep Council said that homeowners should think carefully about their choice of bed when searching for new bedroom quotes.

She explained that finding a comfortable and supportive bed is essential and urged buyers to properly consider what their sleep needs are.
