Bedroom designer: coastal look is "ultra-fashionable"

One of the big interior design themes for 2010 will be the sea side, Marnie Janaway, head of home design for Sainsbury's told the Press and Journal.

"A relaxed coastal look will be ultra-fashionable," she said.

She suggested that an airy feel can be created using a palette of tranquil blues and understated neutrals.

"Cool cottons, natural rattans, galvanised metals and folk-inspired patterns can be easily mixed and matched across different rooms of the home, from bedroom to bathroom."

Ms Janaway told the newspaper that floorboards painted white beneath sea-blue blinds, rugs and accessories will give a holiday-home look.

A recent article in the lifestyle section of the Echo-Pilot advised parents not to leave the decoration of a child's room to a bedroom designer, but to let the child themselves get involved in aspects such as painting, as they will gain skills they can use later in life.
