Bedroom designer: A Caribbean theme makes a room more cheerful

The bright colours of the Caribbean are great for lifting the mood of a roomPeople wanting to make their homes a little more cheerful should opt for a Caribbean theme, a bedroom designer has advised.Those who want to detract from the often dismal British weather should consider injecting a Caribbean theme in their homes, perhaps when seeking a bedroom designer, an interiors specialist has suggested.

Interior designer Debbie Travis wrote in a piece for website yourhome.ca that Caribbean decoration is simple but, through the use of bold colours, makes a room more cheerful.

She explained that there are many things that make up the theme, including "luscious colours, detailed trim-work and panelling, and heritage-style wood furnishings".

For those seeking a bedroom designer, consider suggesting a large headboard "reminiscent of the exotic hand carved, painted Balinese wood bed heads", Ms Travis wrote.

She also recommended layering the bed with a colourful batik spread.

Vibrant shades were used in many of the rooms voted winner and runners up in a recent children's bedroom designer competition run by the San Francisco Chronicle.

One of the competing rooms was garden-themed and had bright green grass painted on the walls, flowerpots nailed above the window and real branches hanging from the ceiling.
