Homeowners are continuing to splash out on DIY projects.More than half of homeowners have done some form of DIY work on their property in the last 12 months, with the average spend being as much as £6,000, according to a new survey.Research by Halifax showed that 56 per cent of people have undertaken home improvement work, spending £1,000 more than during the previous year.Painting and decorating was the most popular DIY task, with 65 per cent carrying out this work, while the single most expensive project was kitchen improvements.DIY fans spent around £6,600 on their culinary space, while the cost of a new bathroom averaged out at around £3,400.Stephen Noakes, commercial director at Lloyds Banking Group, said: "Our research shows that more and more homeowners are picking up their brushes and paint and using their creativity to improve their surroundings."The British Retail Consortium recently said that the sunny weather inspires more people to go shopping for DIY goods.Posted by Tim Lloyd
