£3.2m eco-home offered in raffle

Malcolm and Maxine Cox who own and built the eco-house are hoping to sell 150,000 tickets at £25 each in order to sell their country mansion The Poacher's Retreat in Alcester Heath, near Stratford.

The couple, who lived in a caravan on-site with their two children while the house was being built, came up with the idea after failing to sell the property on the open market.

It has six bedrooms and is very well insulated, meaning it has lower energy bills than the average house.

Mr Cox, who manufactures Victorian-style street lights, told the Daily Mail: "We decided to focus on the conservation of energy and layered the floors and ceilings with high-density insulation which means heating bills are extremely low considering the size of the place."

Installing double glazing is also an effective way of conserving energy.

According to the energy saving trust, installing Energy Saving Recommended double glazing can cut heat loss through windows by half as well as saving each household around £135 a year on heating bills and 720kg of carbon dioxide.
